We are HedgeStar (, a Twin Cities firm specializing in derivative consulting, valuation, reporting, and hedge accounting services. Our entrepreneurial and specialized team has an opening for an Analyst in a position that supports our existing channel partners and direct clients with periodic hedge valuation and processing services. The position provides the opportunity to interact with all levels of HedgeStar’s services and grow in a multi-faceted role.

Our Analyst will build trades in our system of record, monitor client trading activity, produce valuation statements and provide hedge accounting reports related to derivative trades and swaps. Additionally, this role is client-facing and the Analyst will be expected to answer customer requests and questions.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support client derivative trading activities on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis

  • Monitor daily batch activities, generating valuations and reporting based on transactions

  • Examine trade details and build trades in our system of record

  • Respond to client inquiries such as requests for documentation, verification of data or supporting information

  • Optimize client deliverables in our systems of record; Track and log activity in our CRM system

  • Assist with special projects and additional duties on an ad-hoc basis.

  • Engage in business development activities via webinars, speaking engagements, and training sessions

  • Actively contribute to marketing discussions and HedgeStar business strategy

  • Investigate valuation discrepancies and defend valuation work with data-driven evidence

  • Respond to auditor or regulator inquiries comprehensively and with a sense of urgency

Skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting or other highly related area(s) of study

  • Internship or work experience in a Financial position, preferably one with participation in creation of Financial Statements or exposure to Brokerage Valuations

  • Strong drive to learn about derivative financial valuation methodologies and accounting standards

  • Strong interest in numbers and providing a positive customer experience internally and externally

  • Understanding of derivative trades and swaps, valuations and/or ASC 815/820, helpful but not required

  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office user, including Excel, required

  • Experience using Bloomberg terminal or Thomson Reuters Eikon, a plus

  • Motivated self-starter, interested in a growth-focused and client driven environment

  • Strong ability to multi-task and organize daily operations workflow

  • Communicates effectively while working on a close-knit team

  • Proven attention to detail and inquisitive nature

  • Ability to analyze and model large datasets
